Palestine's Flag: Symbol of National Identity
History and Background
The flag of Palestine is a rectangular tricolour consisting of three equal horizontal stripes of black, white, and green, with a red triangle extending from the hoist to the centre of the white stripe. The black stripe represents the Ottoman Empire, the white stripe represents peace, and the green stripe represents Islam. The red triangle represents the blood of Palestinian martyrs.
Current Use
The flag of Palestine was adopted as the national flag of the State of Palestine in 1988. It is also used as a symbol of Palestinian nationalism and self-determination. The flag is often flown at government buildings, public schools, and other official institutions.
